A Quick Detour to Guadalupe Mountains National Park
After a flash flood warning causing us to quickly flee Carlsbad Caverns National Park and a brief detour back to Carlsbad to make dinner in a Walmart parking lot while the thunderstorm retreated, we drove to Pine Springs Campground in Guadalupe Mountains National Park in Texas. The RV part of the campground isn't the most private (seems mostly like a glorified parking lot), but there are some spots that have a bit more space.

Camping spot
In the morning, we embarked on the Devil's Hall trail, a 4.2 mile out-and-back, that conveniently leaves from the campground (day-use parking available as well). It's a nice hike with interesting terrain (a rocky wash that you often have to rock scramble through). Our five-year-old seemed to enjoy this one -- his imagination was going wild with his car cave tours (spoiler alert: there is no cave on this hike and this was probably just him reliving the prior day). It was a little challenging in places with trying to find the best route across the small boulders and then the staircase to get to Devil's Hall.

Staircase
Overall, it took us about 3.5 hours with a short snack break. We were so fortunate with the weather; a cold front had moved in so it was in the 70s for us for basically the entire hike. It was a short visit, but we were glad the storm subsided so we could at least experience some of the park.
